Candy Gold VW T6 Campervan Custom Paintwork
The Brief
We recently completed a custom respray on an Autohaus Spartan VW Campervan to be displayed at the NEC Motorhome and Caravan show.
Much like the Soul Red Pearl Spartan we helped them produce last year this vehicle needed to be a real showstopper and generate lots of interest.
We decided upon a Candy Gold finish with VW Deep Black detailing and the results were spectacular to say the least!
The Spec
Base Vehicle: Candy White VW T6 Transporter.
Bodywork: Candy Gold finish using; Metallic silver based coat followed by a secondary Gold base coat, transparent yellow top coat and a clear lacquer
Details: VW Deep Black on Elevating roof, wheels, sidebars, grills and dashboard.
The Process
We began by stripping the bonnet, doors, tailgate, sliding side door, wheels and lights, leaving us with a bare shell. We then started by prepping the inside, door apertures and roof which were then painted.
The metallic gold base coat doesn’t have a very thick opacity and is usually used on small items such as motorbike tanks, so we need to ensure good coverage to prevent uneven coverage. We therefore gave an initial base coat in metallic silver, followed by the metallic gold. This was then given a transparent yellow top coat, followed by a clear lacquer.
The outside was then prepped and painted in the same way to achieve a stunning factory finish. The whole process of spraying the outside was over 4 hours!
Finally we used VW Deep Black on the details which gave a wonderful contrast to the gold bodywork. The job took a total of 2 weeks to complete.
The Result
We think you’ll agree the finished result is quite spectacular and proved to be quite a head-turner at the NEC show.
We visited the show to see the campervan on the Autohaus stand and got the opportunity for a selfie moment with Tim Shaw from Channel 4 Car SOS! Tim also commented that he was shocked to see such a good finish on a vehicle of this size!
